Yesterday we headed to Newport. We went straight onto the beach before we even checked into our hotel. Aaron's top priority was flying the kite with Daddy. It was really windy though, and as soon as Aaron took hold of the handle the wind ripped the kite away and down the beach. Lots of people helped chase down the kite.
After the rescue the guys had fun flying it. Leland had a pretty tough time bringing the kite back in because of all the wind.
Aaron ran INTO the wind for about a mile on the way back to the hotel. He had a blast. I had to convince him to turn his back to the ocean to take this picture. He said, "Why would I turn my back on the ocean?! It will sneak up on me and drag me away! Remember what my Papa says?!"I promised to keep an eye on the water for him.
Today the weather was very rainy and even windier.
We headed to the aquarium first, and of course the wet weather didn't bother the outside animals one bit.
Aaron LOVED the submarine. There was a button he could push to send bubbles into a fish tank. He pushed it a lot. :)

After the aquarium we went and watched some glass blowing at The Edge Art Gallery. The Alderhouse in Siletz Bay is closed until May, so it was fun to try somewhere new. We got to see a float being made and we bought one to take home.
After that we headed to Yaquina Head Lighthouse. The wind had really picked up. Sea foam was being blown across the parking lot and it was hard to walk. Inside the lighthouse the wind gusts were raising a hatch in the floor. It looked like a ghost. :)
Aaron was 3 inches too short to climb the 104 steps to the top of the lighthouse, but he had fun watching that hatch and talking to the "keepers" while we each took a turn going to the top. The sound of the wind was amazing at the top. The video is not interesting to look at----except for the people getting blown around down below (if you can see it), but the sound is pretty cool.
As we were getting ready to leave a ranger from the bureau of land management came to say the lighthouse was being closed due to 60+ mph winds. Leland managed to get Aaron to the car and almost had to come back for me. The wind was so strong I got blown into a wire guard rail. Ouch.
After that we went for salt water taffy and carmel corn in Depoe Bay. We watched the crazy huge waves crashing.
We are back in the hotel, out of our soaking wet clothes and watching the crazy huge waves from our balcony and Puss in Boots on the TV before dinner.

Side note: we are heading back to Cafe Mundo for dinner again tonight. We went there last night and the food was so amazing. They have lots of gluten free and vegan choices (and "normal" food too ;)) plus live music, good drinks and a fun atmosphere. If you haven't been, you should start driving to Newport NOW. Yum!
